Gieves & Hawkes Sold

Gieves & Hawkes, located at No. 1 Savile Row in London has been the tailor of choice for Monarchs and dignitaries since it was established in 1771. Well known customers have included Robert Scott—the intrepid explorer, the Duke of Wellington, Sir Winston Churchill and the Prince of Wales (to name but a few).

In recent years, Gieves & Hawkes has struggled to appeal to a younger market, and has not made an annual profit since 2005, whilst the current chief executive resigned in recent weeks.

Trinity, a Hong Kong group is buying the brand, with the aim of increased expansion into the Chinese market. Trinity group already operates more than 100 Gieves & Hawkes stores in China, but are expected to bring the full British bespoke service to its Chinese stores.
